Design

It is also worth saying that the internal space of the system unit is also highlighted, even if the computer is disconnected from the stationary power supply. Inside the case, there are many semiconductor LEDs, which not only decorate it but also serve as functional lighting.

There are four hard drive bays inside the case. Hard drives are simply inserted there, like memory strips into their slots, and there is no need to connect an interface cable and a power cable. A trifle, but nice. There are as many as six RAM slots on the motherboard, so there is room for improvement.

Input Devices:

As for the keyboard and gaming mouse that the manufacturer put in the Alienware Aurora box, nothing special can be said about them. On their own, they’re not bad, but given that these input/control devices come bundled with such a serious gaming PC, the impressions about them are not very positive.

The keyboard with multimedia key module differs from other similar devices only in the Alienware logo.

Performance:

The Core i7 920 performs best in applications that are optimized for multi-threaded tasks. The increase in power will be especially clearly felt if the speed of running applications depends on the memory bandwidth and is optimized for the SSE 4.2 instruction set.

But even if you work with programs that do not support new processor technologies, then the Core i7 920 will still be slightly faster than the previous generation processors. As for Turbo Boost, it increases performance exactly as much as the processor frequency increases.

Processor:

i7 processors are designed according to a modular structure, which allows you to include various structural blocks in the CPU. For example, the processor has already added an integrated memory controller that works with DDR3 memory and supports three-channel access to RAM.

It is worth noting here that the Aurora motherboard has six RAM slots, each of which can be inserted into a 4 GB bar. Due to this, the total amount of RAM can be increased up to 24 GB.

All four cores of the i7 processor, as well as the memory controller and cache memory, are made on a single die, and not on two, as was the case with the Yorkfield cores.

The processors support Hyper-threading technology, with which 8 virtual cores are obtained from 4 physical cores, and Turbo Boost technology, which controls the core frequencies. So by default, i7 processors are focused on overclocking. Turbo Boost technology increases the frequency by increasing the multiplier but only by one unit.

Upgraded Chassis

A significant advantage of ready-made gaming PCs from premium brands over gaming laptops from them is the ability to upgrade. In a few years, after the release of new hardware, as well as the release of #PS5 and the updated #Xbox, it will still be possible to replace obsolete parts with a few screwdriver movements.

The processor will still remain relevant due to the possibility of overclocking and impressive performance per core. Video cards are becoming obsolete due to the growing graphical appetite for games.

For a PC like the Alienware Aurora, gaming performance is critical. But it is impossible to adequately evaluate it with the help of such benchmarks as 3D Mark 06 and Vantage.

We can only make a relative comparison. So it’s much better to do real gaming tests, where the frame rate will help you get a better idea of what this device is capable of.

For gaming tests, we have selected the most popular and at the same time demanding games such as Crysis WARHEAD, FarCry 2, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat and H.A.W.X. In all cases, testing was carried out at a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels.

This decision was made due to the fact that a person who has a small 19-inch monitor with a resolution of 1024×768 pixels is unlikely to play on such a serious computer. Alienware Aurora needs to be played in a big way.

The results obtained by us at various settings are shown in the table. Needless to say, they didn’t really surprise us. The last playable shooter was Crysis WARHEAD.

Even at the lowest settings, the frame rate per second was 18.57. This is not a very good result, but with a certain stretch, you can play Crysis WARHEAD. In other games, everything turned out much better. Even at maximum settings, the playability will be at a high level.

Alienware Aurora is an extremely performance PC. In the presented configuration, it will work well for both the gamer and the person involved in graphics processing.

A system of two video cards Radeon HD 5870 from ATI will be relevant for a long time to come. It will become especially in demand after the appearance of games under DirectX 11. The Aurora case is already exclusive and does not require additional modding frills. It is also easy to upgrade.

On the other hand, the manufacturer installed modern hardware in it, which will pull even demanding games, not to mention other applications. Of course, you can build a computer yourself and it will cost less.

If you want to enjoy modern games with high settings and perfect performance, or if you work a lot on the computer, then most likely yes.

If you want a ready-made, perfectly configured device out of the box, then it’s worth buying. This computer does not need to be purchased on a limited budget.

If you need to squeeze the maximum performance out of the spent rubles, you should turn your attention to the self-assembly of the computer.

Alienware Aurora 2019 is a no-compromise device for those who just want to play games without having to fiddle with hardware. There is a wide range of models for any need and for any wallet.
